All in all, the Guard Cam absolutely nailed it on all factors of our testing process. It passed every test with flying colours – and was definitely the best all-rounder for cutting-edge tech, alongside affordability and convenience.

On first impressions, we were pleasantly surprised. With the low-price point and standard shipping as advertized, we weren’t expecting such a quick turnaround – but our package arrived after just 5 working days and was neatly wrapped. We got straight onto setup and the wire-free design made for incredibly simple installation. It literally took us 10 minutes from start to finish! And it came with all the installation tools you need, including screws and a mounting bracket.

We found the compatibility great. Guard Cam connected to the Wi-Fi instantly. And we tested the app on both Android and iOS across cell phones, tablets and other devices and found it seamless to use across them all. 

The smart notifications, live video stream, and 2-way audio didn’t have any lag which was another huge plus point. Even when we tested the device from miles away, they came through almost instantaneously. The motion detection was excellent, and we also had a go at setting up their Geofence feature which is a super convenient way to reduce the number of unwanted notifications when you’re at home.

But all of this smart functionality would be completely useless if you couldn’t really see anything. Thankfully – Guard Cam excels in this area too. The HD camera has a wide angle 170° view that many of its competitors didn’t, so we could see a visitor at the door from head to toe (and the neighbour’s cat!). We also tested the camera quality at night, which is of course, just as important. The 1080p IR night vision did not disappoint, and still gave us a crystal-clear view, even when it was pitch-black outside.

Having only tested it for a relatively short period, we can’t comment too much on the battery life. However, it’s said that Guard Cam’s doorbell can be used up to 8 months before it needs recharging (depending on how often it’s used) which is far longer than the others we tested.

Considering all of the above, what shocked us most was the low-cost of the Guard Cam video doorbell in comparison to the majority of their competitors. Being a small US startup – they perhaps don’t have the overheads that a lot of the bigger brands have and so can keep their prices down – which is great for us! That being said, without the ‘big brand name’, obviously, Guard Cam does lack the same reputation.
